Mongolia's economy, contributing 25.8 percent to the gross domestic product and accounting for 92 percent of the country's exports as of the third quarter of 2024. However, illegal exploration, usage, and extraction of minerals, along with unauthorized mining activities, have significant negative impacts on the environment. In fact, illegal mining crimes account for 24.2 percent of all environmental crimes.

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic and the adoption of the First Constitution, the State Great Khural of Mongolia, in collaboration with the Hanns Seidel Foundation of the Federal Republic of Germany, organized a conference titled “Effective Implementation of Parliamentary Oversight” on November 19, 2024.

The Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, in collaboration with the German-European Law Center of the School of Law at the National University of Mongolia (NUM), organized a theoretical and practical discussion on "The New Phase of Legal Reform in Mongolia" on November 18. The discussion gathered over 120 participants, including representatives from legislative, executive, and judicial state institutions, academics, researchers, and experts, who discussed ways to enhance the national legal system.

Within the framework of the legal project for the environment aimed at preserving biodiversity through collaboration with law enforcement agencies, the Hanns Seidel Foundation has been working with the General Police Department’s Environmental Police Division since 2022.

On November 26, 2024, Mongolia will celebrate a special anniversary: ​​the 100th anniversary of adopting its first constitution in 1924. This event will provide an opportunity to look back on a century of constitutional development and discuss current challenges and future prospects.

The Media Council regularly organizes consultative meetings for editors on current topics. On October 30, a consultation session titled “Is the Role of Journalism in Government Merely Oversight?” was held with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

On November 6, 2024, the Mongolian Bar Association and the Judicial Disciplinary Committee, supported by the Hanns Seidel Foundation, organized a legal symposium titled "Ethical Responsibility of Legal Professionals: Challenges and Reform Approaches."

The Hanns Seidel Foundation Mongolia, in collaboration with the Institute for Strategic Studies and HSF Korea, recently hosted a workshop titled "Security and Peace in Northeast Asia: Challenges and Solutions." This event brought together a diverse group of experts from Korea, Japan, China, Mongolia, and Germany to discuss pressing security issues and explore opportunities for cooperation in the region.
