Ms. Irmuunzaya graduated from the German Studies program at the National University of Mongolia (NUM) in 2010 and in the following years she completed the preparatory course and the Master's program in Environmental Sciences at the same university. In January 2016, she defended her master's thesis on “Assessing water quality of Sugnugur, Gatsuurt and Kharaa rivers using macroinvertebrate communities”.
From August 16 to 18, 2023, the 20th International Meeting of the International Goose Specialist Group (GSG) took place in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where researchers and experts discussed the protection of Nordic migratory birds.
The guest speakers of the international conference “Central Asian Flyway (CAF) Initiative - Perspectives from Mongolia” and the HSS representatives visited the Khar-Us Lake National Park with the aim of conducting a field study together with the local experts of the WSCC. The aim was to explore the ecosystem service in the area and its significance for the various species.
The recent "Central Asian Flyway (CAF) Initiative – Perspectives from Mongolia" seminar in Ulaanbaatar brought together experts from ten countries to emphasize global collaboration for safeguarding threatened bird species and their habitats. Supported by diverse stakeholders including the Mongolian government and international organizations, the seminar underscored the need for transboundary conservation efforts along the Central Asian Flyway and other critical migration routes.
Experts from Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Mongolian Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) met on August 15, 2023 to exchange best practices in biodiversity conservation and discuss future cooperation. The focus was on cooperation between states along the Central Asian Flyway, environmental law and international cooperation opportunities for endangered species conservation.
The HSS Mongolia scholarship has yielded its first results through the collaboration between the Department of Geography at LMU Munich and the National University of Mongolia (NUM).
