Education Event
Visit to the Rehabilitation Center for Young People

On its own initiative, HSS organized an educational event at the Rehabilitation Center for Youth in collaboration with the Christina Noble Children's Foundation (CNCF).

The RZJ houses 36 juveniles who are serving a custodial or juvenile sentence and employs 34 officers.

With the training, we aimed to provide the young people and RZJ officials with some basics of human rights and introduce them to the parts of the legislation relevant to them, as well as provide the young people with information they will need when integrating into society after their release. Topics covered included:

For the juveniles:

  • Criminal law, including the consequences of recidivism and its prevention
  • Reintegration process into society and the support available from the state and NGOs after release
  • Environmental law and environmental awareness, including penalties in the event of illegal activities relating to rare and endangered plant and animal species and the ecological and economic impact of those activities

For civil servants:

  • Human rights, including rights, duties and responsibilities of civil servants
  • Updated Child Protection Act and proven experience from Sweden on the juvenile justice system

The head of the RZJ - Mr. Tamir - expressed his gratitude to the HSS and CNCF. The parties agreed to continue the educational event and to integrate the HSS National Scholarship Program into the RZJ to support the young people after their release. The young people and civil servants themselves also gave very positive feedback on the training.
