Preventing and Combating Environmental Crime in Protected Areas

On 25 March 2022, the Environmental Crime Prevention Committee, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior, organized an interdisciplinary discussion event on the above-mentioned topic in cooperation with the Selenge Provincial Citizens' Assembly and the HSS.

In his opening speech, Mr. Felix Glenk expressed his support for further actions to combat and prevent environmental crime in Mongolia and to cooperate with the relevant authorities and organizations.

The aim of the event was to get a better grip on environmental crime in border areas and special protection areas, to strengthen cooperation between the relevant authorities and to improve the expertise and skills of the relevant officials.

During the event, the current status and challenges of violations of the law in relation to the harvesting of forest by-products and further measures were discussed. At the end of the discussion, a joint recommendation to combat environmental crime was drawn up and presented. The recommendation will be presented to the decision-makers at a later date.

The event in Selenge Province was attended by over 120 representatives, including the environmental police, the Selenge and Khentii provincial councils and other relevant authorities.
