Phase 1 of the Climate Policy Watchdog Project

With the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, the Northeast Asia Youth Climate Change Council (NEAYCC) has successfully completed Phase 1 (14 Nov – 29 Dec 2025) of the Climate Policy Watchdog Project. The project aims to assess the implementation, transparency, and accountability of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) across China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Mongolia through a youth-led monitoring approach.

In Phase 1, the project:

  • Developed a youth-centered monitoring framework using qualitative methods (desk research, web-based scans, and semi-structured interviews).
  • Conducted two consultation workshops and one final validation workshop to strengthen participatory and adaptable methodology.
  • Launched initial social media outreach to raise awareness of NDCs among young people, generating early engagement and interest.

In Phase 2, the project will move into country-level data collection and analysis, producing youth-led monitoring reports and advocacy materials to strengthen transparency and accountability in climate action.
