Discussion event
Parliamentary Elections and Financing of Political Parties

The country's electoral law and the law on political parties are currently under active discussion, as they are on the agenda for the spring session of parliament. At this important time, the country offices of the Hanns Seidel Foundation, Konrad Adenauer Foundation and Friedrich Ebert Foundation jointly organized a discussion event on the topic of 'Mongolia's political system'.

The event was opened with a speech by the German ambassador, Mr. Jörn Rosenberg. He thanked the German political foundations for organizing the discussion event and emphasized that it did not mean any interference in the country's internal politics, but should merely be understood as a platform for an open exchange of experiences and information. The decisions were solely up to the Mongolian decision-makers themselves.

At the beginning of the discussion, Prof. Dr. Florian Grotz spoke on the topic of 'Electoral system and party financing: recommendations for Mongolia'. Afterwards, the participants - representatives of political parties, researchers from the country's political and legal sectors as well as interested parties - had the opportunity to ask various questions about the upcoming electoral reform and party financing in Germany and to exchange information.

Participants discussed the advantages and disadvantages of different electoral systems, problems caused by the current electoral system, the transparency of political party finances and other relevant topics.

The state representatives of the political foundations then commented on the current debate on the above-mentioned laws in the country and on electoral law reform in Germany and answered questions from the participants.
