Opening of the Center for German and European Law

The Center for German and European Law was inaugurated! With high-ranking representatives from the judiciary, education and politics, this important event not only marks a milestone for the strengthening of Mongolia's legal system, but also for the exchange between Germany, Europe and Mongolia.

The foundation of the Center for German and European Law (the Center) was laid in the context of the 30th anniversary of the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation (HSS) on the basis of the Memoranda of Understanding of our partner organizations and the HSS.

The Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between the Faculty of Law of the National University of Mongolia and the University of Würzburg as well as between the Faculty of Law of the National University of Mongolia and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS). The center was then officially founded in April 2024 by order of the Rector of the National University of Mongolia (NUM).

 

The opening of the center was successfully organized on 27 May 2024.

The opening ceremony was attended by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, N. Myagmar, the Rector of NUM, B. Ochirkhuyag, Ms. Hana Becker, Deputy Head of the German Embassy, Christoph Göbel, District Administrator of the District of Munich, Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf from the University of Würzburg, Mr. Christophe Forax, Deputy Head of Delegation in the EU Delegation, as well as members of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia, academics and lecturers from NUM.

The opening of the center took place in the library of the NUM. After the opening speech, Academician S. Narangerel gave an honorary lecture on 'The Mongolian legal system and its roots in the Roman-German legal tradition'.

 

Dr. T. Zolboo was appointed head of the center and he introduced the center in his presentation.

Furthermore, the guests of honor were warmly welcomed in the building of the Hanns-Seidel-Foundation, the location of the center, and received an introduction to the environment in which the center's activities will take place.

The opening of this center has been discussed intensively over the past few years. Thanks to many years of communication with the University of Würzburg, it could actually be realized in 2024.

Introduction to the Center

The Center will conduct academic and research activities aimed at improving and developing the national legal system, strengthening the uniformity of the legal system in accordance with the priorities of the National University's mission and strategy, and conducting academic and policy research to support the development of the legal system.

 

Exploring and Designing on a Larger Scale

The Center brings together a wide range of research and human resources. It consists of renowned faculty and researchers from the Faculty of Law at NUM, highly qualified doctoral students at an advanced level and experts from German and European research institutes and universities active in the region. Through close cooperation in academic exchange, the Center achieves international standards and benefits from access to leading academic electronic libraries and an extensive collection of over 2700 printed books. These extensive resources enable joint research projects and the implementation of scientific programs. The Center strives to further expand its opportunities for cooperation and to establish itself as a leading institution in the future.
