Expert Roundtable
Mongolia’s Role in Regional Peace Cooperation

On 19 September 2025, the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Mongolia and the Institute for Strategic Studies (ISS) hosted a closed-door expert roundtable on Mongolia’s role in regional peace cooperation.

The confidential meeting brought together senior experts from Mongolia, Japan, Korea, the United States, and representatives of international organizations.

Discussions focused on Mongolia’s strategic neutrality, soft-diplomacy tools, and future opportunities for multilateral engagement. In three thematic sessions, participants examined the country’s potential as a mediator, mechanisms for regional peacebuilding, and the importance of climate action and youth initiatives for long-term cooperation.

The roundtable’s insights will feed into key international forums, including the 2025 UNESCAP Senior Officials Meeting, the Ulaanbaatar Dialogue, and the UNCCD COP17, which Mongolia will host in 2026.

Through this event, HSF Mongolia contributed to building trust, fostering dialogue, and advancing sustainable peace in Northeast Asia.
