Ethics in Journalism

On January 27, 2023, the Forum for Ethics in Journalism took place for the fifth time, this time under the theme 'Values of Ethics: Preserving Freedom and Gaining Faith'.

Under the above-mentioned main title, discussions were held on the specific topics of “Risks to journalistic ethics and conviction: Restoring Faith in the Media” and ‘The Criminal Law Protection of Human Honor and Dignity and Self-Regulation of the Media Industry’ took place. The event brought together representatives from the media and legal sectors to exchange views on ways to improve the legal framework for freedom of the press and freedom of expression in the country. The urgent adoption of the law on the protection of human rights in the media was also heatedly discussed. 

 

In his welcoming address, Mr. Felix Glenk explained that the HSS is ready to support the country's media industry in overcoming its current challenges with the help of German expertise. 

Prof. Dr. Eric Hilgendorf - Professor at the University of Würzburg - spoke at the forum on the topic of 'Criminal law protection of human honor and dignity - German and international experiences'.

Other topics included 'Self-regulation: regulating journalism ethics at the editorial level', 'Ensuring media diversity, participation and increasing trust in the media' and 'Criminal law regulation of the dissemination of false information in practice'.

The forum was organized by the HSS, the Mongolian Media Council and the Deustche Welle Akademie with the participation of around 120 journalists, researchers, political actors and legal representatives.
