Conference
Conference of the Member States of the UN Convention

'Nature knows no borders' - this is the motto of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the United Nations Convention on Migratory Species (UN CMS), which is currently taking place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The Hanns Seidel Foundation is represented by its offices in Central Asia, Korea and Mongolia.

The UN CMS is the environmental convention under the umbrella of the United Nations Environment Program and was established and hosted in Bonn, Germany. It provides a global platform for the conservation and sustainable use of migratory animals and their habitats. While nature and migratory species know no borders, people and nations are separated by borders, which often poses challenges for nature conservation.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation is committed to its values under the motto 'In the service of democracy, peace and development'. It is therefore also committed to nature conservation across borders. Representatives of the HSF offices in the region take part in the HSF's climate project GMACC (Global Project on Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change).

The programme also includes a conference on Inter-Flyway (flight paths of migratory birds), as well as an event on 'Securing Asian Flyways: Ecological Perspectives, Knowledge Sharing and Management', which will take place on 13 February and is being organized jointly with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and the International Crane Foundation.

HSF's GMACC project aims to strengthen networks in the field of climate change and nature conservation. HSF Mongolia contributes by focusing on legal issues related to environmental problems, such as law enforcement and justice.
