As part of the cooperation between the German and Mongolian cities of Murun/Khuvsgul Province and Baruth/Mark in the field of sustainable development, the fourth international water conference took place in the city of Murun from October 17-18, 2022. HSS participated in the event for the first time to ensure sustainable development in the environmental sector.

4th Murun Water Conference
The conference was attended by national and international experts and scientists from various sectors who gave presentations on environmental and community issues. In addition to representatives of sponsoring organizations and the organizing team, more than 70 representatives of the local administration, rangers, environmental police officers, local residents, employees of tour companies, representatives of civil society and small and medium-sized enterprises took part in the event.
The two-day conference included presentations on the following topics:
- Technical deficiencies in existing wastewater treatment plant infrastructure (Waste Water Management)
- Perspectives and technical solutions for energy problems; H2 storage in island operation
- Community-based activities („Eco Mommies“); Support from Start-Up
- Solutions for a sustainable hygiene situation
- Waste and other environmental problems (air) - Implementation of environmental legislation
- Prosecution for environmental offenses
- Successes in the fight against environmental crime
- Tourism at Lake Khuvsgul - Perspectives for future sustainable management and the control of tourist hotspots.
As part of the partnership between the cities of Murun and Baruth, a number of projects have been implemented since 2010 with the aim of protecting the environment and ensuring sustainable development in the province of Khuvsgul. The promotion of citizen participation plays a major role in this.
As the HSS measures support public awareness by improving the enforcement of applicable environmental law, it participated in the implementation of the fourth Muren Water Conference with its own contributions to the work of the environmental police (i), to the sustainable improvement of health-critical infrastructure (hygiene) (ii) and to the identification and prosecution of environmental offences. The HSS successfully organized the conference in line with the priorities of the environmental projects to raise public awareness in the area of improving environmental law enforcement, ensuring environmental sustainability and building the German-Mongolian bridge.
