Workshop
Cooperation with the law enforcement agencies

On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, the Zoological Society of London (ZSL), with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS) and in cooperation with the Mongolian Environment Civil Council (MECC), organized the event 'Implementing best practice in integrated environmental legislation and cooperation with the herders' cooperative: The case of Khojd Mogoin Gol Teel Protected Area' in Tsetserleg Sum, Arkhangai Province.

ZSL's project 'Mongolian New Environmental Police: Global Standards and Community Participation' is now protecting and restoring the ecosystem in the locally protected area by strengthening cooperation between law enforcement agencies and involving herders' cooperatives. By working with citizens, law enforcement agencies are effectively combating crimes and environmental violations in the service of nature conservation. For example, a total of 62 violations were detected in the previous year.

The Mongolian Environment Civil Council (MECC) recently presented the results of the study on 'Social Guarantees and Legal Status of Rangers', which highlighted important aspects of social security and legal recognition of rangers. In addition, they emphasized the many benefits of promoting cooperation between rangers and civil society organizations.

An important cornerstone of the discussion was the expansion of the project and the implementation options and solutions in the other Sums. Particular emphasis was placed on cooperation between the pastoralist cooperative and between local governmental and non-governmental organizations.
