Youth Program
The Official Launch of the UNCCD Young Ambassadors Program

On November 1, 2025, the first meeting of the UNCCD Young Ambassadors Program successfully took place in Mongolia.

The program is jointly organized by the United Nations Association of Mongolia (UNA Mongolia) and the National Environmental Youth Council (NEYC), with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation Mongolia. The initiative aims to empower young people to actively engage with issues of desertification, land degradation, and sustainable development, while strengthening their knowledge and skills in these important areas.

This program is a continuation and an integral part of the “Policy Empowerment” program and the “Policy Hackathon” implemented earlier in 2025, representing the next phase of a comprehensive initiative to enhance youth participation in policymaking.

The program runs for two months, with participants meeting every Saturday for sessions, trainings, and discussions. During this time, they will explore in depth the three major environmental conventions of the United Nations – the Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) – as well as their goals, functions, and interlinkages.

At the opening session, UNA Mongolia and the National Environmental Youth Council presented the objectives, structure, and schedule of the upcoming two months. Participants then received an introduction to the three Rio Conventions, their interconnections, and their significance for global cooperation.

Later, Enkhuun Byambadorj, Youth Delegate to the UNFCCC COP and Executive Director of Breathe Mongolia, delivered a presentation on “Interlinkages: UNFCCC, CBD, and UNCCD”, illustrating with practical examples and factual insights the relationships between climate change, biodiversity, and desertification.

To conclude, Battsetseg Banzragch, Youth Delegate to the UNCCD COP and M.Sc. graduate in Sustainability Science from the University of Tokyo, spoke about the mandates, objectives, and international cooperation frameworks of the UNCCD, as well as Mongolia’s role and contribution within this global process.
