Youth Engagement: Environment and Law Successfully Concludes Its Fourth Year

The Hanns Seidel Foundation has supported the project “Youth Engagement: Environment and Law”, implemented by the Environmental Education Center of the National University of Mongolia (NUM), since 2022. In 2025, the project was successfully implemented and completed for the fourth consecutive year. The project aims to equip young people with fundamental knowledge of environmental issues and legal frameworks, fostering responsible and environmentally conscious citizens.

Over the past four years, more than 14,000 children and adolescents from schools in remote areas of the Chingeltei, Bayanzurkh, and Songinokhairkhan districts of Ulaanbaatar have participated in the project free of charge. Through practical and engaging training sessions, participants gained essential knowledge on environmental protection and relevant legal principles, demonstrating the project’s tangible impact.

As part of the “Youth Engagement: Environment and Law – Phase 4” project, 1,520 students from general education schools in the Bayanzurkh, Sukhbaatar, and Bayangol districts took part in 2025. The successful implementation of the project was made possible through the support and cooperation of the respective District Citizens’ Representative Khurals (ITK).

The training sessions emphasized practice-oriented methods, discussions, and active youth participation rather than purely theoretical instruction. This approach increased engagement and strengthened participants’ understanding that environmental protection is inseparably linked to civic responsibility and legal awareness.

The Hanns Seidel Foundation, which has consistently supported the project for four years, has long been committed in Mongolia to promoting democracy, the rule of law, and civic and environmental education through a sustainable, long-term approach. Its continued support has been instrumental in enabling the project to reach thousands of young people.

Special appreciation is extended to the Environmental Education Center of the National University of Mongolia for professionally organizing and successfully implementing the project. The team’s expertise, dedication, and commitment significantly contributed to the quality and impact of the project.

Building on the achieved results, the project is planned to be continued as a tradition in 2026, reaching an even broader group of children and adolescents.
