Initiative
Children and Young People for the Environment and Environmental Law

The first part of the above-mentioned program was successfully implemented.

HSS implemented the program in collaboration with the National University of Mongolia (NUM) and its Environmental Education Center to ensure the sustainable development of the environment. The program aimed to provide children and young people with a sustainable understanding of how to use Mongolia's natural resources.

In the first part of the program, over 2500 children and young people from the city districts of Chingeltei and Bayanzurkh took part. They visited the Environmental Education Center and went through a series of stations to gain environmental knowledge. The stations included 'Seed Journey', 'Animals in our Museum', 'Knowledge Greenhouse' and 'On the Trail of the Invisible'. In addition, there was another interesting station called 'Let me live', which was led by the environmental police to teach the children about environmental law. After the station lessons, the participants acquired knowledge about environmental laws and crimes, such as: Poaching and forest fires under Chapter 24 of the Penal Code, as well as knowledge about the penalties for related offenses, violations and prevention options.

The children and young people documented their impressions in writing. They were happy to be able to experience such hands-on training and see the wonders of the environment up close. They learned about the importance of environmental protection, which they will (hopefully) keep in their hearts.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the members of parliament Mr. Sukhbaatar.J and Ms. Bulgantuya.K for their support in integrating the children from their constituencies. They emphasized that providing knowledge about the environment and environmental law is of great importance for the children and youth who are the future of Mongolia.

Since 2022, the Hanns Seidel Foundation has focused on environmental law.

It focuses on ensuring sustainable development and global environmental challenges such as climate change.

In this context, we successfully organized the first part of the 'Children and young people for the environment and environmental law' programme from 15 April to 15 June 2022. The second part will follow in September and October, with a further 2,500 children and young people taking part.
